Deep Water Church: Before You Come

We gather Sunday mornings at 10:30 in the Empire Theatres in the Park Lane Mall, located on one of the most well-known streets in Halifax, at the corner of Spring Garden Road and Dresden Row. Officially, it's 5657 Spring Garden Road. You're more than welcome to show up a few minutes early and grab some free coffee and grub.

There is usually ample (and free) on-street parking at 10:30 on a Sunday morning, but for those chilly winter days, Park Lane offers underground parking services. The parkade is located at the rear of the property, down Dresden Row.

Hosts

Someone will meet you at the door, welcome you, help you find anything you need like the children’s programs or a good seat.

Refreshments

The spread usually includes coffee, juice, doughnuts, and muffins – all free.

Atmosphere

We try to create a fun, informal, and comfortable atmosphere.

Band

There will be a live band that will play for about 15 minutes.

Message

Someone (usually Pastor AJ) will share some truth from the Bible about Jesus. The message will be interesting, useful, and easy to understand. We use media, drama, physical objects, and (if AJ has his way, pyro) to help communicate the message . Check out our podcast to see what a typical message is like.

Upstream Kids

We offer great programs on Sunday morning during the Worship Gathering for kids from birth to grade 6. All programs are staffed by caring, trained, and rigorously screened adults. For full details and information check out Upstream.

Boredom

We think going to church should be fun, engaging, and useful. We think making Jesus boring is a sin. We work hard to make sure things are clear and understandable, and we do our very best to make Sunday mornings at Deep Water a great experience.

Rituals

Sometimes some folks will stand when we sing. Some people will close their eyes if someone is praying, but there is no right or wrong thing to do. If you want to get into it, cool, if you want to just sit back and relax, great. Just do whatever you are comfortable doing.

Sunday Best

We are not really a “get all dressed up and go to church” sort of crowd. Some folks will rocking their business casual, but most of us will just be jeans and t-shirts. Just wear whatever you are comfortable in, everyone else does.

Pressure

We want to give you space to just check stuff out. We won’t ask you for money, push you to do or say anything, or point you out as a new person. We will be friendly, open, and glad to meet you.

Perfect People

Jesus is helping us to become more like Him, but we aren’t there yet. We have flaws and issues, and we readily admit it.

To Be the Only First Timer

We get lots of first time attendees at Deep Water, and we love to have them. We have structured things to make checking Deep Water out as easy as possible.
