Q:How do I get involved?
A:The best way is just to come out to a worship gathering.
Q:Who leads this thing?
A:Our lead pastor is AJ Thomas. He grew up in small town (Sussex) New Brunswick where he played some very poor basketball and ran around in the woods a lot. His favorite color is grey which makes him sound boring but he is really a pretty fun guy. He is married to Kelly and they have two sons, Micah (4) and Isaac (1.5) and a dog named Jack that pees when he is excited. AJ likes pretty much anything that has to do with acoustic guitars, loves a good laugh, and is currently in counseling for his obsession with the TV show “Lost”. If you want to get to know AJ better email him and set up a time to meet. Just make sure it’s not during “Lost”.
Q:Really? Just one guy?
A:Goodness no! AJ works with a large team of volunteer leaders to make decisions, come up with ideas, and carry out the mission of Deep Water Church.
Q:What if I don’t believe the same as you and I just want to check it out?
A:We would love to have you. Deep Water is all about people who want to have a chance to come and check things out without being pressured to make some sort of decision or commitment. You are warmly welcomed to come and observe and, if you want to, participate. You will likely find others here who are doing the same thing.
Q:How do I get my questions about God, Jesus, church, etc, answered?
A:First I would say come on out to a worship gathering and see what we are all about. There is a good chance many of the questions you are wrestling with will be addressed. We also welcome you to email us your questions and we will set up a time to get together and discuss what’s on your mind.
Q:Why are you doing this?
A:We believe that Jesus is the hope of the world and we want to help people follow Him and we want people who choose not to follow Him to be making an informed decision.
Q:I already go to a church should I start coming here instead?
A:If you currently attend a solid bible believing church our recommendation is that you stay there and help it become the best it can be. If you are unable to continue attending that church (i.e. moved, can’t get there, it closed down, you have developed a life threatening allergy to stained glass, etc.) we welcome you to consider making Deep Water your new home.
Q:Are you going to ask me for money?
A:No – We don’t ask guests and those who are undecided about following Jesus to give in any way. Yes - Deep Water is supported by those who are followers of Jesus and consider it their home church.
Q:Why do people in the crowd sing at your gatherings?
A:Followers of Jesus have been singing together for centuries. We consider singing together about Jesus an act of worship to Him. It might sound weird but it’s better than animal sacrifice. It’s totally fine if you choose not to participate in this (or any) part of our time together. The lyrics are projected on the screen should you choose to sing or if you would just like to follow along with the words.
Q:Are you a connected to a particular denomination?
A:Yes. We are a member congregation of “The Atlantic District of the Wesleyan Church”.
