The gathering for prayer on Friday night was awesome, we will be doing it again on the near future so keep your eyes open for when and where. Some folks have asked "why so late at night?" A few reasons, it's less likely to interfere with "previous engagements", for those with kids it means whoever stays home with the children can got bed or read a book or just relax rather than chasing the children around, and the late hour tends to make it more about who wants to be there than who feels obligated to come. Point being it was a really meaningful time and you are invited to the next one.
This Week
We will spend some time talking about, well, time. Showing up would be a great way to spend some of yours so we hope to see you there.
Upstream Update
Upstream's theme this month is humility and in order to show the children an example of how to apply humility in real life we are going to host a ministry project of our own. Throughout the month of June as students finish up school we will be collecting items to help less fortunate children and families prepare for the next school year by collecting as many school supplies as possible. The cost of school supplies for some may seem like a small expense, however for others it may be difficult or even impossible to come up with the money to purchase the supplies needed to send their children to school. In addition to asking the children to bring in school supplies I would like to ask each of you to bring in one or two items to help us with this ministry project or you can take one of the plastic bags provided with the list of items age group and fill it. There will be a school bag set up in the theatre each Sunday in June where you can place the school supplies.
Special Note: If you took a plastic bag last week or plan to take one this week here is what you need to know.
- On the bag it says to include a check for $5. Don't worry about that
- You don't need to include everything in the bag that is on the list, instead...
- You need to pick a grade range (listed at the bottom) and fill the bag accordingly. Most stores that carry school supplies (Staples, Wal-Mart, etc) have lists available of what a child needs for the grade they are in.
Camp Fundraising Event!
On June 27 Deep Water will be having a bake sale at the VG Hospital to raise money for Julie Bennett's ministry. Every year Julie raises funds to provide for kids in public housing areas of Halifax to have an opportunity to go to Truth for Youth Camp. If you are willing to bake for the sale or are able to spend a few hours at the table on the day of the sale, please contact Carolyn Fifield. This is a good opportunity to let your friends/coworkers know of Deep Water's fundraising efforts; they may be interested in helping!
National Hunger Awareness Day
As part of FEED NOVA SCOTIA's observance of National Hunger Awareness Day they will unveil a Wall of Hunger to represent the 40,000 people who rely on community food programs in Nova Scotia. If you are interested, feel free to attend the event at FEED NOVA SCOTIA's main office (213 Bedford Highway) on Thursday June 5 at 8:30AM as they reveal the face of hunger. (This is not a Deep Water event; Deep Water supports FEED NOVA SCOTIA through various activities throughout the year).
