These are super exciting days at Deep Water. Our new Baptistry has arrived and we will be having our next Baptism Party at the theatre in the very near future. The actual tent has arrived fort he prayer tent ministry and that will be starting ASAP. If you have volunteered to be a part of this ministry you can expect to hear from me soon about next steps. As for the International Partnership I can't say anything. I want to so, so, so, so bad but it's not quite time yet. This is going to be so incredibly awesome! God is bringing some phenomenal stuff together.
This Week
Scary stories continues and if all goes according to plan we will be looking at one of the most significant figures of the Old Testament and what he can teach us about the kinds of people God uses.
Deep Water Fair
On Saturday, July 18th, Deep Water will be having a fair as our second fundraising event in support of Julie Bennett's ministry with underprivileged children in our city. The fair will be held at the Halifax Christian Academy from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. There will be games and events for all ages, including: a cake walk, a pie in the face contest, bobbing for apples, face painting for the kids, and other various games/activities. There will be a donation box where you can make a contribution to Julie's ministry. You will also have a chance to support this cause by participating in activities that admission will be charged for (there will also be several activities that do not require the purchase of admission) or by purchasing a snack from the BBQ or refreshments. We have secured indoor and outdoor facilities for the fair so it will take place even if it happens to rain on July 18th. If it is a nice enough day to be outside several of the games will occur outside and feel free to bring chairs/blankets so you can sit on the field and enjoy the sun. This is a good opportunity to bring your family and friends out to support a great cause! For further information, please email Heather Trites and Adam Setchell.
Prayer Tent
About 10 months ago the Leadership Team began to pursue the possibility of a prayer tent ministry on Grand Parade to bar patrons on Saturday night. The idea is simple; be available to pray with people about whatever is going on or going wrong in their lives as a tangible way to show the love of Jesus in a non-judgmental way that builds positive relationships between the people of Deep Water and the downtown bar crowd. The big hurdle has been getting the appropriate permissions from the city but after almost of year of phone calls, emails, prayer, and waiting everything is a go and this exciting new experiment will launch in mid/late July. We will be recruiting and training teams of people to serve at the tent. More details will follow but if you are interested in learning more about getting involved let me know.
Church at the Park
On Sunday August 2nd we are going unplugged and out doors for a worship gathering at Point Pleasant Park. We will meet at the Martello tower at the usual time (10:30am) and you can feel free to bring a lunch and a frisbee as many of us will be sticking around after to just hang out and enjoy the beauty of creation and each others company. Should weather become an issue we will reschedule for another week and be at the theatre as usual.
Shower for Baby Fifield
Carolyn and Geoff Fifield are excited that they're going to be having a little girl, due mid-August, and we're excited too! The gals from Deep Water will be having a shower on Saturday, July 18 at 11:00 AM at the Ogilvie's house at 117 Beech Tree Run in Beechville. Carolyn is registered at Babies R Us as well as "Nurtured" (on the corner of Robie and Willow). They will be using cloth diapers for their little one, which can be purchased at Nurtured. If you'd like to purchase diapers, contact Kery-Ann, as there is a bulk discount that a few people can go in on. For more info you can email Kery-Ann, or call 431-4677. If you like to bring some muchies on Saturday, that would be great, too! Hope to see all you ladies there!
And now you're in the loop.
