July 30, 2008

Saturday night (and the first part of Sunday Morning) several of us took some time to walk around downtown and pray for the people of Halifax. It was an amazing time and we are already seeing God working to answer those prayers. We will be doing another prayer event in the near future so stay tuned.

We continue to make good progress towards our goal of raising $3,000 to send kids to camp, which is awesome! With a little work we will be there by the first of August. Check out the section below for how you can be involved.

This Week

Is Part 4 of the "Summer of Love" and we will be talking about one of the hardest challenges we face as followers of Jesus – Loving Our Enemies. Here's to a sunny Sunday on the Garrison Grounds.

Kids to Camp Fundraising

Since the last BBQ went so well (great job, Heather L and team!) we are going to have one more. On Saturday, August 2, starting at 10:30 am we will be having a BBQ outside of Future Shop in Dartmouth (MicMac Mall location). Trevor Orser (444-6249) will be the prime contact. Please let him know if you can help.

August 3 will be the final day for contributions to this cause. Every dollar that is raised goes directly to the camp fund. If you would like to give, please note on your envelope or cheque that the money is for "Kids to Camp".

Summer of Love

This summer, starting July 13th we are heading outside to meet in the sun for worship on Sundays. We will be doing some cool stuff like having a BBQ, playing some Ultimate, and celebrating our first ever "Sandwich Sunday". Here are the key details you need to know:

  • Meeting on Sundays at 10:30 in the Garrison Grounds area of Citadel Hill, just up and over a block from Dresden Row across from the CBC building.
  • We will be working to keep things under an hour.
  • Feel free to bring a lawn chair (in fact, bring an extra one for someone else if you can) or a blanket to sit on. If not, you can always be totally hippy and just sit in the grass.
  • We will not be offering supervised child care but we will be setting up a couple of play yards (like we currently use for nursery). Parents are encouraged to sit close to one and keep an eye on their children as they play.
  • We will be providing cold drinks to help beat the heat but you will want to remember sunblock and sunglasses, hats, etc.
  • This is an outdoor area that does not have public washrooms. There are several business close by that have facilities and there is a public washroom at Public Gardens a few blocks away. But those of you with young children may want to make an extra "just in case" pit stop before you come.
  • WEATHER ISSUES: Should weather not permit us from meeting outside we will be in the theatre. If there is any question about the weather for the next day you can check www.deepwaterchurch.com anytime after 4pm Saturday. A message will be posted on the main page if we are moving inside and a special edition of "The Loop" will also be sent out by email. If there is no message on deepwaterchurch.com, assume we are meeting on the Garrison Grounds.
This summer will be an awesome time to invite a friend out to enjoy some sun, fun, and the teachings of Jesus. Who are you planning to invite?

And now you're in the loop.
